This homemade pork roast seasoning is the secret weapon you need to make any pork recipe taste amazing! This dry rub is a powerhouse of savory flavor that enhances everything pork, and is so easy to make. It's quick, simple, and takes your pork dishes to the next level.

No need to reserve this pork dry rub for roasts, it is also delicious on pork chops, pork steaks, pork tenderloin, ribs, you name it (try it on your next roasted chicken dinner too).

Make an extra batch and keep it in your pantry so you have some on hand all the time.

🥘 Ingredients

  • Salt - 1 ½ teaspoon of salt.
  • Garlic Powder - ½ teaspoon of garlic powder.
  • Onion Powder - ½ teaspoon of onion powder.
  • Paprika - ½ teaspoon of paprika.
  • Dried Oregano - ½ teaspoon of dried oregano.
  • Mustard Powder - ½ teaspoon of ground mustard powder (*see note).
  • Ground Black Pepper - ½ teaspoon of ground black pepper.
  • Ground Thyme (optional) - ¼  teaspoon of ground thyme, or use ½ teaspoon dried thyme.

Spice up your homemade pork roast seasoning recipe by adding a pinch of cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes to taste. Or sweeten the dish with a tablespoon of brown sugar.

Be sure to see the free printable recipe card below for ingredients, exact amounts & instructions with tips!

🔪 How To Make The Best Pork Roast Seasoning

This pork roast seasoning can be made in no time. You will need a small bowl, a spice jar or other airtight jar, and spice jar labels.

This recipe yields about 1½ tablespoons of seasoning before adding any optional ingredients. You can easily double, or even triple, it to make more.

Step 1: Prep. Measure out all of the ingredients (1½ teaspoons of salt, ½ teaspoon of garlic powder, ½ teaspoon of onion powder, ½ teaspoon of paprika, ½ teaspoon of dried oregano, ½ teaspoon of ground black pepper, and ½ teaspoon of mustard powder).

Step 2: Add-ins. Grab any of the optional ingredients you'd like to add (¼ teaspoon ground thyme or dried thyme, 1 pinch cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes, or 1 tablespoon light brown sugar).

Step 2: Mix. Add all of the ingredients to a small bowl and mix until evenly distributed

Step 3: Use or store. Use as a dry rub and apply the seasoning to your roast or store it in a cool, dry place for later use.

Try this dry rub with my easy and delicious pork shoulder butt roast recipe. You could also use it on a roasted rack of pork, grilled pork steaks, or a pork ribeye roast. Enjoy!

💭 Angela's Pro Tips & Recipe Notes

  • This recipe will yield 1½ tablespoons of pork roast seasoning, which will easily season 2-3 pounds of pork. For a smaller roast, use half of a batch.
  • If you don't have ground mustard, you may use 1 tablespoon of Dijon or yellow mustard in its place. This will make it a paste that should be rubbed into the pork right away. Alternatively, you can use one of these ground mustard substitutes.
  • After storing your dry rub, always shake the jar before using it to redistribute all of the ingredients.
  • To store: Keep pork roast seasoning in an airtight jar stored in a pantry, cabinet, or somewhere dark and cool. It will last for 2-3 years if stored properly. This is also dependent on the freshness of your herbs and spices.

❓ Should You Marinate A Pork Roast?

While you can marinate your pork roast, it isn't essential, especially when using this flavorful dry rub. For added depth of flavor, you can dry-marinate or dry brine the roast by massaging the seasoning into the meat and refrigerating it for 1-12 hours before cooking.

❓ Do You Season A Pork Roast Before Searing?

Yes, if you are going to sear your pork roast you should do it after it is seasoned.

❓ How Long Will Pork Roast Seasoning Last?

The salt in spice blends acts as a natural preservative and helps keep your herbs fresh for longer. When kept in an airtight jar, away from light, this homemade seasoning can last up to 3 years.

However, the flavor and potency may start to diminish after about 1 year and this can vary based on how old the spices were when combined to make your DIY pork roast seasoning.
